With Geoff Tranter
Global issues as a basis for Business English courses in higher education
SAT APRIL 13. Â @10AM ONLINE
Teaching English in Higher Education at B2 level or above usually means teaching English for specific purposes (ESP), with students aiming to acquire high-level language skills and a qualification for their professional life. This can present certain challenges for the teacher:
- students have little to no workplace experience.
- students often come from different faculties.
- few (if any) suitable teaching materials exist.
- teacher lacks knowledge of students’ area of study.
This workshop will present practical ideas and strategies to support teachers when planning and organizing ESP classes from B2 upwards. The takeaway will be a blueprint – based on global issues – that can be used for most ESP areas, such as Engineering, Social Sciences, Business Communication Skills, Urban Planning, etc.
Geoff has wide experience of language teaching and testing in various areas of education including adult, further and higher education. He teaches B2, C1 and C2 courses at the TU Dortmund.
